The government is working to reduce the price of internet for the benefit of users, said Bill Emdad-Ul Bari of the Communications and Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTR).
He said this at a hotel on Monday (November 4).
The BTRC Chairman said that internet service should be a basic human right today. It is also important to make a law on this. The internet should never be shut down. The BTRC will do everything to make this service sustainable and affordable.
He said that mobile operators now want to be known as digital service providers in the data revolution. But this is not possible unless the price of internet packages comes down to the price of water. For this, the network has to be sustained. So we can go to the asset light model.
Emdad-Ul Bari also said that the BTRC’s capacity has decreased a lot. Work will be done to restore it. Along with this, a large number of licenses will not be given in the future. Rather, work will be done to give sustainable licenses. We will now go from voice-friendly to data-friendly.
The BTRC Chairman said that no one will be allowed to become a monster in the telecom sector. Those who try, if necessary, will be cut off.
It was informed in the meeting that by 2024, the government and private sectors have spread the transmission network to about 1,71,106 kilometers across the country. And as a result of this network, all internet-based services have spread to the union level of the country.
TRNB President Sameer Kumar De presided over the meeting, and former TRNB President Rashed Mehedi presented the keynote address. TRNB General Secretary Masuduzzaman Robin delivered the welcome speech.
BRAC University teacher Saimum Reza Talukder, Dhaka University teacher Mosaddek Hossain Kamal Tushar, Teletalk Acting Managing Director Nurmanal Mabud Chowdhury, Fiber at Home Managing Director Moinul Haque Siddiqui, Summit Communication Limited Chief Network Architect (CNA) Farrukh Imtiaz, Robi Ajit’s Corporate and Enforcement Affairs Officer Shahed Alam, Banglalink’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Taimur Rahman, MTOB Secretary General Md.
